Uber Background Check on Legal Adversaries Backfires

It was a background check that backfired.

After getting hit with an unusual price-fixing complaint late last year, executives at Uber Technologies Inc. hired an investigative firm to conduct a background check on the plaintiff suing. The research yielded damaging facts, but not the kind Uber expected.

The plaintiff has claimed in court papers that Ergo, the firm hired by Uber, used “fraudulent means” to try to dig up information on both him and his lead attorney.
