Case study: Deep rooted discovery points a finger at government official
Experience/Bribery Cocktail in Hungary Goes Sour

Bribery Cocktail in Hungary Goes Sour

We were retained by one of the largest law firms in the world to help it conduct an internal investigation on behalf of a European client’s review of allegations that one of its senior employees bribed a Hungarian official.

During the course of our investigation, we conducted field interviews, performed a computer forensic review of the employee’s hard drive and undertook a comprehensive analysis of whether the Hungarian who received the suspect payments was a government official. As the investigation progressed, we discovered that local Hungarian counsel had approved some of the payments at issue.

While we ultimately concluded that the Hungarian recipient was a government official, we also discovered that the payments under scrutiny were connected to an embezzlement scheme concocted by the official and the client’s employee, and did not provide any business benefit to the client.
