Nardello & Co. was retained by a hedge fund that had identified inconsistencies with the accounting record of a publicly traded Chinese company.
Starting with a thorough open-source investigation of the company we developed an understanding of the variety of issues this company faced. Confidential source inquiries were then conducted with industry journalists, competitors of the Chinese company, industry analysts and law enforcement officials.
Our client, who was under extreme time pressure to make an informed investment decision, used our information to arrive at a conclusion that the high-profile CEO was playing a shell game with regulators in order to continue his lavish lifestyle and that the company’s future looked grim. As a result it did not take a position in the company.
