A large, international energy company engaged Nardello & Co. to conduct a background investigation on an individual to whom it was considering selling certain assets in Latin America. The client was particularly concerned about the source of the individual’s wealth, considering his professional history and the government’s outsized role in the energy sector in the region.
Our investigation included conducting discreet inquiries with our network of well-placed contacts in Venezuela during a time of political and economic difficulty, which posed significant challenges to obtaining effective intelligence. Through these inquiries, we determined that the individual in question had close ties to state officials who oversaw some of the country’s biggest energy and minerals companies and had been accused of corruption.
Our work helped provide valuable information for the client to consider in structuring the sale of its assets.
